UNITED NATIONS – The UN Security Council will meet behind closed doors onThursday to address the Turkish military operation against Kurdish fightersin northeast Syria.
The discussion by the 15-member Security Council was requested by fiveEuropean members — Britain, France, Germany, Belgium and Poland, diplomatssaid.
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, announcing the start of the militaryaction on Wednesday, said the aim was to eliminate what he called a “terrorcorridor” on Turkey’s southern border.
The move came just days after U.S. troops pulled back from the area.
