ISLAMABAD – Federal Communication Ministry recovers huge sum of lootedmoney in PML N era development projects.
The Federal Minister for Communications Murad Saeed has recovered a heftysum of Rs. 1.32 billion, allegedly embezzled by past governments. This isthe second-biggest recovery since 2018.
After being appointed as a minister, Murad Saeed ordered an independentaudit of the ministry’s accounts for the previous ten years.
The audit report highlighted discrepancies worth billions of rupees invarious projects carried out by previous governments. The report revealedthat hundreds of millions of rupees were paid in excess to contractors.
According to the statistics released from the ministry, it retrieved Rs.200 million from the Okara Bypass project. The payment was made in advancewhile the project never started. Moreover, the overpayment of Rs. 242million to a contractor in the Panjgur project was also recovered.
Similarly, Rs. 69 million were recovered from Rajanpur and DG Khan IndusHighway project while Rs. 122 million reclaimed from Islamabad-MuzzafarabadDual Carriageway.
Note that in July this year, the ministry recovered another Rs. 4,500million from various projects of the ministry. The total recovery made bythe Communication Ministry during last year amounts to Rs. 8 billion.
