Former Prime Minister Pervaiz Elahi’s wife has filed an appeal against theHigh Court’s decision in the Supreme Court. The request names the Punjabgovernment, the Secretary of Interior Punjab, and the IG Punjab asrespondents. Pervaiz Elahi’s release was sought from the Supreme Court, andthe request also includes a plea to prevent his arrest in any future cases.
The request seeks orders to prevent Pervaiz Elahi’s arrest in any unknowncases and to issue orders for his appearance in court. The Lahore HighCourt had previously dismissed Pervaiz Elahi’s request on the grounds ofineffectiveness, but despite release orders, he was arrested again. TheHigh Court did not review the facts related to PervIz Elahi’s arrest.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the former Chief Minister of Punjab, who had alwaysbeen aligned with the establishment throughout his extensive politicalcareer, is currently facing criticism from various powerful circles. He hasbeen entangled in court proceedings and various detention centers for thepast few months.
Cases against him have also been filed, just like his leader Imran Khan. Ifthe courts grant him bail in one case, the government takes him intocustody in another. According to some political analysts, there may be apenalty for Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi not leaving Imran Khan’s side, and if heannounces leaving the party today, all his problems could be resolved.

On the other hand, critics of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi suggest that theestablishment might be orchestrating repeated arrests as a drama to buildhim up as a hero. They claim that, ostensibly, by keeping him under strictcontrol and using his sacrifices to rally PTI workers, they are preparinghim to lead the party according to the establishment’s wishes after ImranKhan’s incompetency.
