Amid concerns of a potential terrorism incident in Lahore, theCounter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab conducted two distinctoperations on Saturday, resulting in the apprehension of two individualsaffiliated with a proscribed extremist organization Daesh.
In Rawalpindi, a significant operation led to the arrest of Isa, ahigh-ranking commander associated with Daesh. Meanwhile, in Gujranwala,another operation executed by the CTD led to the capture of a militantknown as Zakir.
These apprehensions were further accompanied by the discovery ofexplosives, detonators, cellphones, and a sum of cash in the possession ofthese detained individuals, as verified by the Additional Inspector General(IG) of the CTD.
Confirming these arrests, the Additional IG of the CTD disclosed that legalproceedings had been initiated against the apprehended militants, and anongoing investigation was in progress to unearth further details regardingtheir activities and any potential accomplices. Additionally, the officialrevealed that a total of 52 individuals suspected of involvement in illicitactivities had been taken into custody during 369 extensive combingoperations conducted exclusively within various regions of Punjabthroughout the week.
Furthermore, an astounding 13,871 individuals underwent questioning duringthese operations, underscoring the concerted efforts of the authorities tomaintain security and combat the looming threat of terrorism in the region
