LAHORE – Google is paying homage to renowned German Dr Ruth Pfau, whodedicated her life to eradicate leprosy from Pakistan – on her 90thbirthday with doodle today (on September 9).
A symbol of selflessness Dr Ruth Katharina Martha Pfau had been hailed asPakistan’s ‘Mother Teresa’. She first came to Pakistan at the age of 29 in1960. She witnessed leprosy in Pakistan for the first time in 1960 andreturned to set up clinics across the country.
Dr Pfau rescued disfigured and suffering children who had been confined tocaves and cattle pens for years by their parents, who were terrified thatthey were contagious.

“I could not believe that humans could live in such conditions,” she hadsaid, remembering her first impressions of a Pakistani leper colony.
