Pakistani Pacer Shaheen Afridi Sets New World Record

Shaheen Shah Afridi has etched his name in cricket history by setting a new ODI world record—claiming 131 wickets in just 65 matches. This remarkable feat was achieved during the first ODI against the West Indies in Trinidad, where Afridi took 4 wickets for 51 runs, leading Pakistan to a five-wicket victory.

Afridi’s achievement surpasses the previous record held by Rashid Khan, who had taken 128 wickets in the same number of matches. Notably, Afridi is the only bowler in history to average more than two wickets per match at this stage of his career.

In addition to his wicket tally, Afridi now boasts the best ODI strike rate among bowlers from Full Member nations with at least 100 wickets. His strike rate stands at 25.4, surpassing the previous record held by India’s Mohammed Shami at 25.8.

Afridi’s consistency and impact on the game have drawn comparisons to some of the finest fast bowlers in cricket history. His best bowling figures in ODIs, 6 for 35, remain a masterclass in seam bowling.

This achievement further cements Pakistan’s rich legacy in producing world-class bowlers and solidifies Afridi’s position as one of the premier fast bowlers in contemporary cricket.
