Russia responds over media reports of invitation to Pakistan PM Imran Khan and its embarrassing

MOSCOW: Russia has refuted Pakistan media reports that Prime Minister ImranKhan has been invited to the Eastern Economic Forum.

The clarified by the Russian Foreign Ministry came following reports inPakistan media that an invite was extended by Russian President VladimirPutin to PM Khan during the Shanghai cooperation organization summit inBishkek.

The two leaders held an informal meeting on the sidelines of 19th meetingof the Council of the Heads of State of the SCO.

Russian Foreign Ministry in a statement said,”We drew attention to thepublications in a number of South Asian media that the Prime Minister ofthe Islamic Republic of Pakistan Imran Khan was invited to the events ofthe Eastern Economic Forum (WEF-5) in Vladivostok (September 4-6, thisyear) as the guest of honour…”.

“We expect that the President of Mongolia H Battulga, the Prime Minister ofIndia Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of Malaysia M Mohammad and thePrime Minister of Japan S Abe will arrive in Vladivostok.”

The forum meeting that began in 2015 aims to garner investment in Russia’sfar east region. It will happen in the port city of Vladivostok.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office is yet to respond to media speculations aboutPremier Khan’s visit to Russia.
