5 UN Security Council members elected for two-year term

UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations General Assembly has elected five Security Council members for a two-year term.

Indonesia overwhelmingly defeated the Maldives in the contested election for one Asia-Pacific seat by 144 to 45, while Germany, Belgium, South Africa and the Dominican Republic were elected unopposed.
