Modi addresses US Congress urging deeper US-Indian security cooperation

WASHINGTON: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during address to the US Congress, urged US lawmakers for deeper US-Indian security cooperation.

Modi claimed that both US and India can counter the growing terrorism and territorial disputes including South China Sea to enhance peace and stability in the region.

“It can also help ensure security of the sea lanes and commerce and freedom of navigation on seas,” Modi said.

Stressing the need of strong relationship, Modi claimed that fight against terrorism cannot be won alone.

“We have both lost civilians and soldiers in combating it. The need of the hour is to deepen our security cooperation,” he added.

He also vowed to help in rebuilding Afghanistan which is facing the threat of terrorism, as stable Afghanistan is in interest of  India.
