Corps Commander Peshawar visits Afghanistan border at Torkham

LANDI KOTAL: Corp Commander Peshawar Lieutenant General Nazir Ahmad Buttalong with Inspector General Frontier Corp (IGFC) Major General WaseemAshraf and Commissioner Peshawar, Shahab Ali Shah paid visit to Torkhamborder on Tuesday and examined routine activities of various departments atthe border.

The visiting officials visited terminals of Federal Intelligence Agency(FIA), National Logistic Cell (NLC) and Immigration counter where they werebriefed by the concerned officials of the daily business. The forces andcivil high-ups also warmly met with the Afghan border security soldiers atthe ze-ro point of the border and ex-changed good gesture with them.

Later on briefing to the media persons Political Agent, Khyber Agency,Islam Zeb said that the official during their visit took some importantdecisions to enhance trade ties between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He addedthat quarantine, made compulsory for perishable items, import fromAfghanistan via Torkham has been declared void and null and the Torkhamcustom office was asked to boost up its clearance process to encouragetrade.

To facilitate the local traders, PA said more entrance and exits pointswould be constructed and hurdles erected in front of markets in Torkhamwould be removed. Earlier, extra-security measures had been adopted in thearea on the arrival of the officials.
