International Cricket Council (ICC) said that it has a secondary plan ifIndia fails to host T20 World Cup scheduled for October this year.
ICC’s interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Geoff Allardice said in hisstatement that,
“Yes, we have ‘back-up plans’ “But at this stage, we haven’t activatedthose plans, because we are preparing to go ahead with the event in Indiaas scheduled.
“We’re working with the BCCI and different elements of that event at themoment, but we do have backup plans that can be activated when the time’sright.”
India is facing a surge in coronavirus cases because of the second wave ofthe pandemic, is reporting 100,000+ cases on daily basis.
Earlier, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ehsan Mani wasvery positive to host Asia Cup in 2023 and hoped that team India will alsoparticipate in the tournament.
In an interview the chairman said that Pakistan will get the rights of thetournament soon “Pakistan has to host the Asia Cup in 2023,” “India’sparticipation in the tournament will be a big breakthrough for Pakistancricket. I hope that the political situation would improve by then.”
While talking about this year’s Asia Cup in Sri Lanka he said that “Therewas a small window in June in which we are going to play the rest of thePakistan Super League matches,” he said.
He further added to his statement that,
“The Indian team will play the final of the Test Championship against NewZealand. They have to go to England two weeks ago and stay in quarantine sothe Indian team is also busy.”
