Top Pakistani political leadership emerges out to be main beneficiary of NAB amendment

Many political leaders, including Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, NawazSharif, Hamza Shahbaz, Asif Ali Zardari, Raja Pervez Ashraf, and ShaukatTareen, have benefited from the government’s amendments to the laws of theNational Accountability Bureau (NAB).

However, many politicians and bureaucrats also benefited from theamendments made during former prime minister Imran Khan’s government.

On the order of the Supreme Court (SC), NAB submitted a detailed 137-pagereport, which listed the beneficiaries of the amendments.

According to the report, among the beneficiaries of the amendments made inthe Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government are Prime MinisterShahbaz Sharif, his son Hamza Shahbaz, former president Asif Zardari, hisclose associates Anwar Majeed and his son Abdul Ghani Majeed, Raja ParvezAshraf, Shaukat Tarin Yusuf Raza Gilani, Senator Abdul Qadir, Farzana Raja,Senator Rubina Khalid, Senator Yusuf Baloch, Saleem Mandviwalla, formerprovincial minister Rehmat Ali, Asfand Yar Khan Kakar, and former PunjabAssembly speaker Sibtain Khan.

It also noted the names of Nawab Aslam Raisani and Lashkari Raisani in thesame list. The cases of Kakar and Arbab Alamgir were either closed or sentto NAB.

Moreover, in the Toshakhana reference, due to the request of former primeminister Gilani, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who was a co-accusedin this reference, also benefitted from this.

Apart from them, dozens of bureaucrats also benefited from the so-calledreforms.

On the other hand, among those who benefited from the NAB amendmentsbrought during Imran’s tenure, Gilani, Ashraf, Saifullah Bangash, formerprime minister Shaukat Aziz, Liaquat Jatoi, General (retd) Javed AshrafQazi, General (retd) Saeed Zafar, Major General Hamid Hasan former KhyberPakhtunkhwa (K-P) governor Sardar Mehtab Abbasi Nawab and Raisani are thenotable names.Many government officials also benefited from the amendments brought duringthis period and their cases were closed.

It should be noted that in the NAB amendments case, the apex court hadasked the anti-corruption body for the details of the beneficiaries of theamendments brought during the previous government and the currentgovernment.
