A local court in Islamabad has rejected a bail application of Awami MuslimLeague (AML) leader and former federal minister Shaikh Rashid Ahmad.
Pronouncing the verdict reserved earlier on Thursday, Additional SessionsJudge Tahir Abbas Sipra rejected the plea for post-arrest bail.
It may be mentioned that Sheikh Rashid, 72, was detained last week from hisresidence on a complaint filed by the PPP Rawalpindi Divisionvice-president. He is being tried under several sections related tocriminal conspiracy, promoting enmity between different groups, andstatements conducing to public mischief.
Murree court sends AML leader to jail
A local court of Murree on Thursday sent Awami Muslim League chief SheikhRashid Ahmad to jail on 14-day judicial remand, reported 24NewsHD TVchannel.
Murree police had sought three-day physical remand of the former interiorminister. An FIR was registered against Sheikh Rashid Ahmad with MurreePolice Station.
The AML chief was presented in court in tight security amid chilly weatherand rain.
Sardar Raziq advocate and Shabbir Muhammad Malik appeared before court onbehalf of Sh Rashid Ahmad.
