DUBAI – International Cricket Council chairman Shashank Manohar has warnedthat Test cricket is ‘dying’.
During a news conference in Dhaka, he said though Tests in Australia andEngland still draw sizeable crowds, filling stadiums and boosting interestin the five-day game has been a challenge in the rest of the cricket worldfor years.
He added that we are trying to see whether a Test championship can generateinterest, because Test cricket is actually dying.
The Chairman said the ICC board has decided that if we start a Testchampionship, it would keep Test cricket alive and generate more interestin the game.
The World Test Championship will kick off in July this year with the firsttest series to be played between England and Australia.
