Sindh High Court sends names to JCP for 6 new high court judges

*KARACHI:* Sindh High Court (SHC) Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh hasrecommended names of six people to be deliberated for appointment as thehigh court’s additional judge, in the forthcoming session of the JudicialCommission of Pakistan (JCP).

A meeting has been summoned in this regard by Chief Justice of Pakistan(CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, on January 18.

Two district and sessions judge Ishrat Ali Shah and Kausar Sultana Hussain,and four lawyers Adnan Iqbal Chaudhry, Amjid Ali Sahito, Agha Faisal andShamsuddin Abbasi are going to be considered for appointment as additionaljudges. Presently, 33 judges are working in the SHC while its totalstrength is 40.

A four-member committee led by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan will gauge thecredentials of each nominee with a final proposal being sent to thecommission to consider their elevation in the bench.

LHC’s senior judge Justice Muhammad Yawar Ali will take over as new chiefjustice of the LHC, at the proposal of the chief justice.

The JCP will also examine the case related to the elevation of Lahore HighCourt (LHC) Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah to the Supreme Court.

Justice Shah was appointed as LHC judge on September 15, 2009, and wasappointed as its chief justice in June 2015. He was responsible forintroducing reforms for improving the justice system in Punjab and theregulation of bar associations of the province.

If Justice Shah gets promoted he will work as SC judge until November 2027.

According to the seniority list, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa will be the nextchief justice of Pakistan. After his retirement, Justice Gulzar Ahmad,Justice Umar Ata Bandial and Justice Qazi Faez Isa will serve as the CJPrespectively.
