Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has suggested that the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) may face a military trial. In a recent interview with a private television channel, the minister indicated that the evidence against the PTI's leader is pointing towards a military court proceeding. Asif stated, "It is clear that the party's founder will face a military trial."
Asif further claimed that Faiz Hameed is likely attempting to shift the blame onto the PTI founder. He suggested that the events of May 9 must have been planned in advance.
"There must have been instructions for the May 9 incidents from the PTI founder," the defence minister emphasized, adding that the leader was bitter about losing his position in government.
The minister also mentioned that Faiz Hameed was frustrated as he had ambitions of becoming the Army Chief. Asif disclosed that Hameed had reached out to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership, offering guarantees in pursuit of his goals.
