PCB to announce new captains for Pakistan Cricket Team

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, announced on Saturday that the decision regarding the captaincy of the Pakistan men’s cricket team will be made by the national selectors and coaches. Naqvi made this statement while speaking to the media during an inspection of the ongoing construction work at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. He emphasized that the responsibility of deciding on any potential changes in the team's captaincy has been entrusted to the selectors and coaches.

Naqvi further elaborated that the decision on captaincy will be made after consultations with the coaching staff, mentors, and the selection committee. He mentioned that a workshop is scheduled for September 22, where all relevant parties will be invited to offer their suggestions. Following this, final decisions will be taken based on the collective input from the group.

In his remarks, Naqvi acknowledged the responsibility he bears as PCB chairman, stating that any mistakes, whether in team performance, selection errors, or coaching issues, would ultimately reflect on him. He also revealed that he would be meeting with the selection committee later in the day to further discuss matters.

Earlier reports had indicated that the PCB has planned a high-profile meeting on September 22, referred to as the “Connection Camp,” to discuss the future of Pakistan cricket, including the captaincy of the men’s team. This meeting is expected to include key figures such as Pakistan’s red-ball and white-ball head coaches, Jason Gillespie and Gary Kirsten, as well as heads of the international, domestic, and high-performance departments. Senior cricketers, coaches, and PCB officials are also expected to attend.
