Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Murtaza Solangi, announced on Thursday that discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are currently in progress regarding relief measures for electricity bills. The minister disclosed that significant decisions in this regard were made during the recent Cabinet meeting, chaired by Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.
Prime Minister Kakar had instructed relevant stakeholders to engage in consultations with the IMF, a process that is presently ongoing. The minister also mentioned that the details of the relief plan for electricity bills would become clear in the coming days. Furthermore, he emphasized that various energy-saving measures were being contemplated to address the ongoing energy crisis, which involves multiple contributing factors.
Solangi acknowledged that the caretaker government possessed limited authority, a specific mandate, and a temporary tenure. Despite these constraints, he stressed the importance of cooperation from all political parties in ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections in the country. Solangi affirmed that their role was not to criticize but to actively contribute to resolving issues.
He pledged the caretaker government's full support to the Election Commission of Pakistan in conducting the elections as scheduled. Solangi reiterated their commitment to upholding the Constitution and safeguarding the rights of peaceful protest and freedom of expression. In response to a query, he cited Article 218(3) of the Constitution, which grants the Election Commission the authority to organize free, fair, and impartial elections, and reaffirmed the caretaker government's commitment to assisting in this endeavor.
