In the province of Herat in Afghanistan, a devastating earthquake struck yesterday, causing widespread destruction and claiming the lives of over a thousand people. According to Afghan authorities, the earthquake that hit Herat was recorded with a magnitude of 6.3. The severe earthquake caused damage to infrastructure and was felt in the provinces of Badghis and Farah as well.
A government spokesperson stated that due to the powerful earthquake, more than 600 houses were destroyed in 12 villages in the Zindaji Jan and Ghorian districts, affecting over 4,200 individuals. Search and rescue operations are underway to rescue additional people trapped under debris.
Afghan cricketer Rashid Khan, who holds a unique position in world cricket as a key player for the Afghanistan cricket team, particularly in ICC World Cup matches, has announced financial aid for earthquake victims.
He has also called for fundraising efforts and expressed concern for the dire situation in the western provinces of Afghanistan, including Herat, Farah, and Badghis. Rashid Khan is currently with the Afghanistan cricket team squad in India for the ICC World Cup 2023.
