Parliamentary leaders seek opinion of govt to take matter of delimitation to CCI

The parliamentary leaders at a meeting on Wednesday has sought clarification from the government whether or not it wants to take the matter of delimitation of constituencies to the Council of Common Interests (CCI).

The meeting was chaired by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq at the parliament house in Islamabad on Wednesday.

It was the demand of the PPP to get the approval of the CCI on the constitutional amendment for delimitation of constituencies before its approval by the parliament.

Later talking to the media persons, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said according to the light of experts opinion, it was also decided that the general elections could not be held on the basis of 1998 census due to legal implications.

The speaker said the elections will be held on time as timely elections are in the interest of every political party.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that opinion of political parties even having only one seat in the parliament has been given weightage on the matter of delimitation of constituencies.
