After Afghanistan, another country has been devastated by an earthquake.Intense seismic shocks with a magnitude of 7 have been felt in the coastalcountry of Papua New Guinea in the Pacific Ocean.
According to Chinese news agencies, the American Geological Survey hasreported that severe earthquake tremors were felt in Papua New Guinea thisweek, registering a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale.
The earthquake’s epicenter was at a depth of 72 kilometers. On the otherhand, in Afghanistan, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake has left over 2,000 peopledead and thousands injured. Experts explain that the Earth’s crust isformed from three major plates: the Eurasian, the Indian, and the Arabianplates.
When heat accumulates beneath the Earth’s surface, these plates move, causing seismic activity. Earthquakes manifest as waves spreading incircular patterns and are more common in regions situated on the edges ofthese plates, where the plates interact or converge.
