Pakistan takes diplomatic action against Afghanistan over Chitral attacks

Pakistan took diplomatic action on Friday by summoning a high-rankingAfghan diplomat to the Foreign Office and presenting a demarche in responseto the Chitral attacks. In this official communication, Pakistan urged theinterim Afghan government to prevent its territory from being exploited foractivities against Pakistan’s interests.

The significance of this diplomatic move becomes evident when viewed inlight of the recent events in Chitral. Just two days prior, a militaryoperation was carried out in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Chitral district, resulting in the tragic loss of four soldiers and the elimination of 12terrorists.

Pakistan’s concern about its neighboring country’s role in such incidentsprompted this action.

The Foreign Office’s expectation, articulated earlier in the day, is thatthe interim Afghan government will fulfill its responsibilities by ensuringthat its soil is not utilized as a sanctuary for terrorists who aim toperpetrate acts of violence against Pakistan. This underscores the urgencyof addressing cross-border security issues in the region.

In a subsequent interaction with media representatives in Islamabad,Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized that Pakistanhad officially conveyed its apprehensions about the recent terrorist attackon military posts in Chitral to the interim Afghan authorities, reflectingPakistan’s commitment to addressing and resolving security challenges inthe region through diplomatic means
