The forthcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, to be hosted in India, isset to benefit from the expertise of elite umpires hailing from theEmirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires. These seasoned officials, known fortheir precision and experience, will play pivotal roles in maintaining theintegrity of the tournament.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has meticulously chosen a cadre of20 match officials to oversee the league stage of the Cricket World Cup.This esteemed group comprises 16 umpires and four match referees who willensure fair play and adherence to the rules. It’s important to note thatthe selection for the semi-finals and final will be announced as thetournament progresses.

Among these distinguished officials, a significant majority, precisely 12,are proud members of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires. This elitedozen includes names such as Christopher Gaffaney (New Zealand), KumarDharmasena (Sri Lanka), Marais Erasmus (South Africa), and others, whobring their extensive knowledge and unwavering dedication to the cricketingworld.

The remaining four officials hail from the ICC Emerging Umpire Panel,representing the promising talents in the field. These officials includeSharfuddoula Ibne Shahid (Bangladesh), Paul Wilson (Australia), Alex Wharf(England), and Chris Brown (New Zealand), demonstrating the ICC’scommitment to nurturing and developing new talent.

What’s particularly noteworthy is that this exceptional assembly ofofficials features three umpires who were integral to the Cricket World Cup2019 final, namely Dharmasena, Erasmus, and Tucker, underscoring theirconsistency and expertise. Notably, Aleem Dar, a prominent figure in the2019 final, will be notably absent from this edition, having stepped downfrom the Elite Panel earlier in the year.

In parallel, the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, comprisingJeff Crowe (New Zealand), Andy Pycroft (Zimbabwe), Richie Richardson (WestIndies), and Javagal Srinath (India), will bring their wealth of experienceas former international players to maintain discipline and sportsmanshipthroughout the event.
