ISLAMABAD–President Manoon Hussain will retire from his post today(Saturday) following completion of his five-year term.
President elect Dr Arif Alvi will take oath of office tomorrow as the 13thhead of state. The oath will be administered by Chief Justice Mian SaqibNisar at a ceremony to be held at the Presidency.
The ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Imran Khan, Army ChiefGeneral Qamar Javed Bajwa, federal ministers, parliament members, foreigndiplomats and senior leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
Earlier, President Mamnoon held a farewell meeting with the officers andthe workers of the President House and thanked them for extendingcooperation to him during his five-year term.
The president told the staffers that during his tenure, he always adheredto his constitutional limits and strived to fulfill his responsibilities.
He said some misunderstandings prevailed in the society regarding theresponsibilities of the president because in the past, some presidents hadpursued the policies of their liking and disliking instead of following thelaw and the constitution.
The president said after leaving the presidency, he would restart livingthe life of a common man.
