ISLAMABAD – Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met on Saturday FM ShahMahmood Qureshi where he extended invitation to Prime Minister Imran Khanto be the Guest of Honor at the International Import Expo in China.
During the meeting at the Foreign Office, the two counterpartsdiscussed China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), economic cooperation,and international and regional issues of mutual interest.
FM Qureshi assured the Chinese minister of his country’s support of CPECand said that it was important for Pakistan’s socio-economic development.
According to a tweet by the FO spokesperson Mohammad Faisal, “Chinese StateCouncillor Yi underscored Beijing’s firm support to Pakistan’ssocioeconomic progress and development.”
The Chinese FM is on a three-day visit to Pakistan. This is the first visitof the top Chinese official since the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf assumedoffice.
The Chinese official arrived on Friday night and was received by a seniorForeign Office official. During his stay in the country, FM Yi will alsomeet Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar JavedBajwa.
The Chinese minister is also expected to meet President-elect Arif Alvi andother leaders of the opposition parties.
