India to Buy 200 Reconnaissance Surveillance Helicopters for Army and Air Force

New Delhi – The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has released a formal Request forInformation (RFI) for the procurement of 200 Light Helicopters,specifically designed for reconnaissance and surveillance missions, for theIndian Army and Indian Air Force.

According to the RFI, the Indian Army will acquire 120 units while theIndian Air Force will receive 80 units. The MoD stated that the issuance ofthe RFI aims to finalise the Services Qualitative Requirements (SQRs),determine the appropriate procurement category, and identify potentialvendors. This includes Indian companies willing to enter into jointventures or establish production arrangements with Original EquipmentManufacturers (OEMs).

A vendor interaction session has been scheduled for August 22, 2025, at10:30 AM to discuss requirements, capabilities, and potentialcollaborations. The last date for the submission of responses to the RFI isOctober 18, 2025.

The move reflects India’s continued push for modernisation andself-reliance in defence manufacturing, in line with the “Make in India”initiative. Once finalised, the procurement is expected to significantlyenhance the Army and Air Force’s aerial reconnaissance and surveillancecapabilities across diverse terrains.
