ISLAMABD – IHC bench hearing the cases of Former prime minister NawazSharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar’sagainst their sentences in Avenfield reference, has been dissolved today. .
The three-member full bench was dissolved after Justice Shams Mahmood Mirzaexcused himself from hearing the petitions due to personal reason.
LHC had formed a full bench to hear petition against sentences of Shariffamily. The decision was taken on the plea submitted by lawyers foundationfor justice’s A.K. Dogar in which, it was stated that NationalAccountability Bureau’s (NAB) law is no more valid after the implementationof 18th amendment.——————————
It is to be mentioned here that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, MaryamNawaz and Captain Safdar were convicted for ten years, seven years and oneyear respectively, in Avenfield verdict that is likely to further disruptan already chaotic campaign for national elections this month.
Maryam Nawaz and Captain (r) Safdar, who were candidates for theforthcoming general elections were also disqualified from contestingelections for 10 years each.
The sentence and a fine of 8 million pounds, or $10.6 million, came almosta year after Supreme Court removed Sharif from office and less than fivemonths after the court barred him from holding office for life.
Nawaz Sharif was convicted under section 9(a)(5) of the NAB ordinance.
The case stemmed from the Panama Papers leak that disclosed expensive andundeclared property owned by the Sharif family in London.
