ISLAMABAD – On the invite of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry(KATI) president, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasivisited Association Head Office at Karachi.

The visit was aimed to apprise the business community regarding country’sblue economic potentials and to encourage them to play their role indevelopment of the maritime sector. While addressing the representatives ofbusiness community, Admiral Abbasi highlighted the role of economicsecurity in overall security construct of the country. He emphasized thatrobust and strong national economy is a fundamental driver for nationalsecurity.

While underscoring the strategic importance of the oceans and maritimedomain for progress and prosperity of the nations, the Naval chief saidthat our geo-strategic location, at the cross-road of world energy routesoffers us a unique opportunity to achieve economic affluence by initiatingeconomic activities in maritime domain.

“Pakistan’s navy has huge potential and there is a dire need to explore andtap these resources by boosting local industry and creating opportunitiesto undertake joint ventures,” he added. While highlighting the importanceof China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the Naval Chief said that itwill act as a catalyst to boost Pakistan’s economy. KATI President Tariqlauded the role and efforts of Pakistan Navy in making Sea Lanes ofCommunication safe and defense of sea frontier.

He further acknowledged Pakistan Navy’s initiatives to enhance maritimeawareness. He specifically praised the navy’s efforts in undertakingsocio-economic projects which include establishment of schools/colleges,hospitals, job opportunities for local populace etc in the coastal areas ofPakistan. He assured requisite participation of business community indevelopment of country’s maritime sector.

On this occasion, Maritime Policy and Research director also briefed themembers of KATI regarding the role and functions of Pakistan Navy. Thepresentation also focused on potential and opportunities to developnational economy through maritime sector.
