SRINAGAR – Kashmiris on both sides of line of control observed secondmartyrdom anniversary of prominent Kashmiri youth leader, Burhan MuzaffarWani, on Sunday, with the reaffirmation of their pledge to continue thefreedom struggle till the martyrs’ mission was duly accomplished.
Complete shutdown, marked by curfew and other restrictions, was observedall across the occupied territory.
Call for strike and a march towards Tral, the hometown of martyr BurhanWani, was given by Joint Resistance Leadership.
Burhan Wani was killed along with his two associates by the Indian troopsin a fake encounter in Kokernag area of Islamabad district on this day in2016.
Thousands of Indian soldiers and police personnel had blocked all roadsleading to Tral, the home town of Burhan Wani while curfew was clamped inthe town. Train and internet services remained suspended.
However, Kashmiri youth defying curfew and restrictions came out of theirhouses in several areas and tried to march towards the residence of BurhanWani in Tral.
Indian troops resorted to brute force to prevent the march. Clashes werereported between the protesters and the troops in Nowdal area of the town.The troops fired bullets and teargas on the protesters who pelted them withstones.
The authorities continued to place Hurriyat leaders including Syed AliGilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Muhammad Yasin Malik,Zafar Akbar Butt, Bilal Siddiqi and Muhammad Yousuf Naqash under housedetention or in custody.
Chairman of All Parties, Syed Ali Gilani in a statement in Srinagar saidBurhan Muzaffar Wani and his associates would be remembered for theirexemplary contributions towards the movement.
Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Mohammad Ashraf Sehraicondemned Indian forces for killing three civilians including a teenagegirl in Kulgam, yesterday. Funeral prayers in absentia were offered forthe martyred civilians in Redwani.
On the other hand, rich tributes were paid to Burhan Muzaffar Wani andother Kashmiri martyrs in various functions held in UK, USA, Canada andmany other countries of the world.
Jammu and Kashmir chapter of Hurriyet leaders organized a rally inIslamabad to commemorate second martyrdom anniversary of popular youthleader, Burhan Muzaffar Wani. The participants raised high-pitchedpro-freedom and anti-India slogans on the occasion.
AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan and Hurriyat leaders spoke onthe occasion.
