AIOU Short courses for journalists launched

ISLAMABAD – Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will soon launch shortcourses for working journalists, both of print and electronic media,facilitating them to further strengthen their professional skills inrelevant disciplines.

Eminent journalists will be invited as visiting faculty members to runthese courses, said AIOU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Shahid Siddiqui whilespeaking at a seminar ‘Mulaqat’ held in the federal capital.

He hoped that the short duration journalism courses will meet theprofessional needs of the working journalists. The university’s Departmentof Mass Communication has already drafted contents of these courses, whichhe hoped, could be introduced within a few months.

AIOU has the distinction of providing bachelor’s, master’s, M.Phil and PhDlevel education in journalism to a large number of youth since itsestablishment since 1987, who are now working in various media houses onimportant editorial positions. The university has also recently launchedtwo-year degree programme in TV production, which had attracted a goodnumber of media practitioners.

Dr Shahid Siddiqui said he attached high importance to media, which has nowemerged as a most strong social institution to serve society in the fieldof education. AIOU is actively engaged in disseminating research-basedknowledge to public and end-users through the support of journalists.

A special quota for the working journalists was fixed in the recent year atthe level of M.Phil and PhD to accommodate working journalists.

The courses include Scrip writing, Post-Production, Videography, anddocumentary.
