*Lieutenant General Tariq Khan* HI(M)link>is a retired PakistanArmy link> general officerlink> who was theCommander of I Strike Corpslink)> at Mangla.[1] Awar hero, he has been the Inspector Generallink> of the FrontierCorps link> fromSeptember 2008 till October 2010.

He has also commanded the 1st Armoured Division in Multanlink> from 2006 to 2007 and thenthe 14th Infantry Division in South Waziristanlink> till 2008. Khangained fame when he led the Frontier Corpslink> to victoryagainst Tehrik-e-TalibanPakistan link> inthe Battle of Bajaurlink> in 2009.

Tariq Khan belongs to the Tanklink> area of Pakistan.He was commissioned in the Armoured Corps in the 55th PMA Long Course on 16April 1977 and was awarded the *Sword of Honour* from the Pakistan MilitaryAcademy link>.

He has participated in the First Gulf Warlink> of 1991, andcontributed towards the international effort in the War on Terrorismlink> as Pakistan’sSenior representative at CENTCOMlink>, Tampa, Floridalink> from 2004 to 2005.

Maj Gen Tariq was posted as IG FC KPK, where he changed FC from a ragtaggroup of fighters into a force on par with Pakistan Army. As IG FC, hecommanded the spearhead of Pakistan’s war against terror. On 1 October 2010he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Generallink)> andappointed Corps Commander Mangla and Commander Central Command.[1]

The officer has been successful in turning the Frontier Corpslink> around from aforce in great difficulty into a highly professional one which has seengreat successes in its recent operations against the militants in FederallyAdministered Tribal Areaslink> and Khyber Pakhtunkhwalink>, Pakistanlink>.
