LONDON – Royal Caribbean’s latest ship ‘Symphony of the Seas’ is all set toclaim the record of being world’s largest ship after having its inauguraljourney in Barcelona this weekend.

Having the capacity to carry almost 9000 people on-board, the ship weighs228,021 tonnes – more than 18,000 double-decker buses – and measures 362metres in length.

It boasts a park, a shopping mall, 23 restaurants and boardwalk as well asa grand slide that runs up to ten storeys.

Talking about the magnificent ship, Captain Hampstead said, “She’s specialin so many ways – she’s brand new and has the latest and greatesttechnology.”

“We still use our Mark 1 eyeball (using binoculars or radar to spotsomething far away), although we have all the technology that’s the latestout there,” he added.

Symphony is currently on its maiden voyage through the Mediterranean beforeheading to Miami in October.
