RAWALPINDI – International Women’s Day is being celebrated today to raiseawareness about gender equality and empowerment of women.

This year’s theme for the day is “Time is Now: Rural and urban activiststransforming women’s lives”.

This year, International Women’s Day comes on the heels of unprecedentedglobal movement for women’s rights, equality and justice.

Worldwide gatherings, conferences, exhibitions and festivals will be heldtoday to mark the day.

In his message on the day, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwahas said that we are proud of role and contributions of our women inuniform, back home and especially the ones who belong to martyrs’ families.

He said that great Pakistani women have a role and responsibility towardsprogress of Pakistan.
