NEW DELHI – Indian court today sentenced seven Muslims to life imprisonmentaccused of for the murder of two Hindus resulting in the killing sixty-fiveand displacing thousands in anti Muslim riots.
The riots began in the district of Muzaffarnagar and spread to other areasin the country’s most populous state months before the 2014 election won byPrime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist party.
All the victims of the riots were Muslims, including about 12,000 peoplewho were made temporarily homeless due to the unrest that polarised westernUttar Pradesh on religious lines.
