India have won their first ever series against Australia on Australian soil by 2-1, as the fourth and last test match between the two sides ended in a draw today.

With the victory, India have reinforced their status as the world´s number one team.

Following on, Australia still were 316 runs behind India’s first innings total of 622 for 7 declared.

When the match was called off as a draw, leaving India with a 2-1 triumph after wins in Adelaide and Melbourne. Australia won the only test match in Perth.

It is the first time India have managed to win a series, since they began touring Australia in 1947-48.
