Federal government unveils strategy to reduce heatwave effects in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD - Advisor to Prime Minister on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam Khan has said that an exclusive strategy is being devised for using urban and vertical forestry to curb heatwaves.

Chairing a meeting on climate change in Islamabad today, he said that indicators are showing an increase in overall temperature of two degrees and it has been decided to address this growing concern.

Malik Amin Aslam said that according to environmental studies, the urban and vertical forestry has a potential to reduce temperatures from 6 to 9 degrees.

He said this initiative will not only save city dwellers from scorching heatwaves but will also help reduce the overall temperature.

The Minister asked the concerned wing of the Ministry of Climate Change to prepare a working paper on the subject which will be further shared with the provinces for deliberations and consultations.
