ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) sought case record against social activist Gulalai Ismaeil from Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in a plea seeking removal of her name from the Exit Control List (ECL).
Justice Aamer Farooq of IHC conducted the hearing on a petition filed by the social worker through her counsel challenging her name on ECL by the Interior Ministry.
During the course of proceeding, Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Khalid Mehmood informed the court on its query that the name of Gulalai was placed on ECL on recommendation of a state institution.
However, the petitioner's counsel Suleman Advocate prayed the court to give interim relief to his client by allowing her for international travel as she wanted to go abroad to attend two conferences. He requested the court to issue orders to the concerned authorities to return the travel documents and passport of his client. Her counsel informed the bench that his client is working on human rights since 2009.
Addressing the petitioner's counsel, the bench remarked, "Do the petitioner want to travel abroad to bring good name to the country."
The court asked the FIA and DAG to submit written reply and adjourned hearing of the case till November 27.
Gulalai Ismail was taken into custody by FIA on October 12, when she returned from the UK and later the same was released on bail. After the arrest, the Interior Ministry had put her name on ECL.
