ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) Tuesday dismissed former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Sheikh Waseem Akhtar and Ahmed Latif’s petition against imprisonment.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa heard the case.

During the course of proceedings, the chief justice said slogans were raised against judges and judiciary, and the Lahore High Court (LHC) had already reduced the sentence from six months to one month.

He said it had become a habit to abuse the judiciary first, and then to apologize afterward.

The petitioner’s counsel took the stance that the plaintiff had apologized before the court and sought unconditional apology.

The apex court dismissed the petition and said there was no need to interfere in the LHC’s verdict.
