ISLAMABAD: Road infrastructure projects worth over Rs 1.4 trillion have been launched during the past four years in all parts of the country, most of which would be completed by next year.
An official of National Highway Authority (NHA) told APP that total length of motorways would increased to 2,400 km once all ongoing road infrastructure projects were completed, from 580 km in 2013.
He said that to improve north-south connectivity, work on ten motorway projects was going on smoothly.
He said that all the provinces were being connected through a network of high-quality roads and highways as a number of roads projects had been launched in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
He said, east-west connectivity was being attached greater importance as well with roads being built to improve linkages between Balochistan and rest of the country.
The official said that in 2013 only Rs 63 billion were allocated for NHA under the Public Sector Development Programme but now the allocations had reached Rs 319 billion in the present fiscal year, which was manifestation of increased road infrastructure development activity in the country.
