ISLAMABAD – Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif files a new petition inSupreme Court of Pakistan.
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif filed a review petition on Monday beforethe Supreme Court against its verdict issued in former judge Arshad Malikvideo scandal case.
Sharif’s counsel, Khawaja Haris submitted the plea and contended that thedecision has affected the privilege of the petitioner, nominating ArshadMalik and others as parties in the case.
The plea states that the top apex court had passed a verdict withoutlistening to and notifying the petitioner, seeking that the court shouldlisten to Nawaz Sharif over the video scandal, as the earlier verdict wasissued without listening to him.
The former premier, who is behind bars at the Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore,has asked the court to review its decision in the case as well as courtobservations against him.
On August 23, the apex court had wrapped up a slew of petitions on thevideo leak scandal involving former accountability court judge Arshad Malik.
Authored by Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, the 25-pageverdict stated that it was not an appropriate stage for the Supreme Courtto interfere in the matter of the relevant video and its effects,particularly when the video may have relevance to a criminal appealpresently sub judice before the Islamabad High Court.
