NEW DELHI – After signing a historic $5 billion air defence system historicdeal, India and Russia have signed yet another historic project overconstruction of nuclear power plant.
Both have reached an understanding on the setting up of a nuclear powerplant with six light-water reactor units at a second site, going beyondKudankulam in coastal Tamil Nadu where two reactors set up jointly by thetwo sides are currently in operational stages and four more units areslated to come up.
After the conclusion of bilateral talks, India’s ambition to expand itsnuclear expertise to projects beyond its borders has also got a furtherboost with the two sides having reached a pact on facilitating theparticipation of Indian companies in Russian-designed nuclear powerprojects in at least one more country other than Bangladesh, where Indiancompanies are already participating in an upcoming project.
