ISLAMABAD: Federal government plans for establishing ‘CPEC Authority’ landsin trouble as the Parliamentary Committee on China Pakistan EconomicCorridor (CPEC) has unanimously rejected the forming of CPEC Authority.
It squashed plans of the government to bring the whole project under oneumbrella.
The Parliamentary Panel on CPEC met at the Parliament House and expressedconcerns that the CPEC Authority’s chairman with power of PrincipalAccounting Officer would have direct conflict with Secretary Planning.
It was also told by the Planning Commission that the CPEC Authority wouldidentify projects to bring them under the umbrella of CPEC.

“The Planning Commission high-ups could not convince the parliamentarianswhy this CPEC Authority is necessary to run the CPEC related projects,”said one member of the committee, according to a report in a newspaper. Hesaid that the Planning Commission argued that the CPEC would now movetowards business-to-business contacts with Chinese side so they were askedto strengthen the ministries concerned.
