ISLAMABAD – World Economic Forum (WEF) has endorsed efforts of Pakistangovernment to plant 1.5 million trees in one day “Plant for Pakistan”,which was initiated by Prime Minister Imran Khan as part of a mega 10billion trees over the next five years.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) reposted a short video documentary onTwitter stated that Pakistan planted 1.5 million trees in a single day tocounter the effects of climate change and pollution, said a press releaseissued here on Friday.
WEF observing that trees not only cool down cities, they remove CO2 fromthe atmosphere and produce oxygen. Trees also help reduce soil erosion.Globally, forests continue to decline.Pakistan’s tree-plating is part of a nationwide drive to plant 10 billiontrees. WEF also urged the world to follow this plantation model to counterthe hazards of global warming and other climate changes.
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf government has practically launched its firstever programme and that too in the area of environmental protection to savethe country from unusual and extreme climate patterns.
The first phase of this campaign titled ‘Plant for Pakistan’ on September 2undoubtedly is a step in the right direction as the general public wasinvolved in it through distribution of free saplings at about two hundreddistribution points across the country.
