*ISLAMABAD – New startling revelations have surfaced in the moneylaundering scam of Rs 35 billion.*
*It has been revelaed that millions of rupees were withdrawn from the OmniGroup’s bank accounts, which were supposed to be frozen on its directives.*
This disclosure came in a report submitted by the Federal InvestigationAgency (FIA) to the Supreme court in a fake bank accounts case.
The FIA informed that funds were transferred from the accounts, which weresupposed to be frozen on the directives of the apex court. These accountsbelong to six companies owned by the Omni Group.
It is pertinent to mention here that Anwar Majeed, a close aide of formerpresident Asif Ali Zardari, owns the Group.
The FIA report said that the top court had issued directives for freezing41 accounts operated by the companies, but a bank employee deliberatelycaused delay in freezing 10 of the 41 accounts due to which thetransactions of millions of rupees took place.
The bank employee found guilty of dragging his feet to freeze the bankaccounts has been put under suspension, the report added.
The FIA had taken Anwar Majeed and his son into custody on August 15 fromoutside the Supreme Court where he and his family appeared before the benchheaded by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar in a suo motu case regarding moneylaundering of Rs 35 billion through fake accounts.
Subsequently, their names were also added to the Exit Control List (ECL) onthe directives of the top court.
Anwar Majeed and his son Abdul Ghani Majeed are among the people beinginvestigated for their alleged involvement in the money-laundering scam.
PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, his sister Faryal Talpur and formerPakistan Stock Exchange chairman Hussain Lawai have also been named in thescam.
