The President of Haiti, Jovenel Moïse, has been assassinated at his privateresidence, according to local reports.
The news was confirmed by Haitian Prime Minister Claude Joseph who saidthat Jovonel Moïse was killed in his private residence in Port-au-Princearound 1 a.m. local time by a group of assailants, Haitian Prime MinisterClaude Joseph said in a Wednesday statement.
The statement did not identify the assailants, but said they wereSpanish-speaking.
The first lady has also sustained injuries in gunshot, the statement said.

The attack has come following protests against Moïse’s government, andcalls for his resignation. He has served as Haiti’s president sinceFebruary 2017.
Pm has termed the attack as “odious, inhumane, and barbarous.”
