ISLAMABAD – Overseas Pakistanis once again stand deprived of exercisingtheir right to vote as Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declaredelectronic voting impossible in general elections 2018.
A three-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) presided over by Chief Justiceof Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar took up for hearing the case pertainingto the right of vote to overseas Pakistanis on Thursday.
At the inception of hearing, Faisal Chaudhary lawyer of Imran Khan told thecourt that the report of security check of electronic vote system has beenreceived but voting is impossible even after our many efforts. A separatevoting list of overseas Pakistanis will have to be prepared.
CJP remarked that experiment of E-voting can be carried out in by polls. Itis feared that any harm is not caused in general election.
Secretary ECP took the stance in the court that voting by overseasPakistanis is not possible because more working is needed on the onlinesystem.
