What Malala Yousafzai said about assassination attempt on Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal?

ISLAMABAD – Prominent Pakistani educational activist and the youngest NobelPeace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai on Sunday night condemned theassassination attack on Pakistan Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal.

On Sunday, Iqbal escaped a possible assassination bid on his life andsustained injuries on his right shoulder as he was shot at after addressinga public rally in Narowal city of the country’s Punjab province.

Terming the incident as “sad”, Malala, who is pursuing a degree inPhilosophy, Politics and Economics at the Oxford University was quoted assaying, “I wish that every Pakistani (person) remains safe and that noone’s life is in danger. I hope for a Pakistan where everyone livespeacefully.”

The Nobel laureate further said that she was thankful to God that themurder attempt on Iqbal did not end up being fatal and prayed for his quickrecovery.

State Minister for Interior Tallal Chaudry meanwhile, said the suspectedshooter was identified as Abid Hussain and has been arrested.

The suspect, who is a resident of Narowal, is about 20 years old and beinginterrogated, according to media reports.

An investigation for the same is underway to identify the motive of theattack.

In February, a man named Bilal Haris hurled a shoe at the interior ministerwho was about to address a workers’ convention in Narowal. The accused wasarrested later.
