GUJRANWALA – Police on Monday recovered the tortured body of asixteen-year-old domestic help from the house of a member of the PakistanMuslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), local media reported.
The victim, identified as Kainat, was found dead in the servant’s quarterat the residence of Azad Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly memberChaudhry Muhammad Ismail Gujjar located in Wapda Town.
Police have registered a case against the Gujjar’s daughter-in-law andthree sons following a complaint filed by Kainat’s father, Salamat Masih.
According to the FIR, marks of ropes were visible around the neck of thevictim, while her body was later sent to a local hospital for post-mortem.
Cases of torture on minor domestic help has been surfaced in past in thecountry. The issue of torturing the child maids made headlines last yearwhen a 10-year-old Tayyaba was recovered from the sessions court judge’sresidence in Islamabad. The Supreme Court took suo moto notice of the caseon media reports, and later transferred the case to the trial court.
On April 17 this year, the trial sentenced Raja Khurram and his wife,Maheen, to one year in prison, in the Tayyaba torture case.
