US expresses concerns over Pak India violence along LoC

WASHINGTON – The United States says continued violence along the Line ofControl poses risk to stability in the region in the wake of tensionbetween Pakistan and India.

This was stated by head of US Defence Intelligence Agency and Director ofNational Intelligence in their assessments of worldwide threats beforeSenate’s Armed Services Committee in Washington.

US Defence Intelligence Agency Director Lt. General Robert Ashley saidexchange of heavy fire between Indian and Pakistani forces along the Lineof Control poses a risk of gradual escalation of hostilities.

Director of US National Intelligence Daniel Coats said relations betweenPakistan and India are likely to remain tense with continued violence onthe LoC.

On Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts, Gen. Ashley said Islamabad islikely to proceed with its counterterrorism operations and bordermanagement efforts along its western border while sustainingcounterterrorism operations throughout the country.

He said these efforts have had some success in reducing violence frommilitant groups.
