Over 1,000 Kashmiris illegally detained in Indian Jails

ISLAMABAD – In occupied Kashmir, over one thousand Hurriyat leaders andactivists have been illegally detained, at present, by the Indianauthorities in different detention centres of the territory and Indianjails.

According to a report released by the Research Section of the Kashmir MediaService, of those detained, over 500 persons have been put behind the barsunder draconian Public Safety Act, whereas 16 have been imprisoned in TiharJail by Indian agencies NIA and Enforcement Directorate. Remaining personsare incarcerated in different police stations and interrogation centres.

The Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Muhammad AshrafSehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Kashmir is a politicaldispute, which could only be resolved on the principle of the right to selfdetermination.

He welcomed the joint statement by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoganand Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Kashmir and termed it as sourceof strength for the people of Kashmir.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malikand other Hurriyat leaders paid rich tributes to martyr Sajjad Ahmad Kenuin connection with his 22nd martyrdom anniversary.

Meanwhile, Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Gilanipresided over an extraordinary meeting in Srinagar, today, which disbandedexisting setup of the APHC AJK chapter and handed over the responsibilityof the forum to Syed Abdullah Gilani.
